What is a PRP/CGF?
PRP/CGF is a treatment that involves micro-needling in conjunction with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) or Concentrated Growth Factors (CGF). Micro-needling involves the use of fine needles to create micro-injury in the upper part of the skin. The intention is to cause slight injury under the skin which induces the skin to start repairing itself and generate natural collagen. Also, the micro-holes act as the penetration point of PRP or Concentrated Growth Factors.
Platelet-rich plasma is a serum with a higher number of platelets from the client’s blood. The blood contains platelets which have a high level of growth factors. Platelets are a component of blood and play a crucial role in the body’s natural healing process. In case of an injury, the platelets promote clotting of the blood at the area and release growth factors that help repair the injured area. It is for these reasons that PRP has been used in sport medicine for speeding up the healing of injury after surgery or as a result of trauma. In aesthetic, the PRP is being used to rejuvenate the skin and correct various skin imperfections. When the PRP is applied to the skin, growth factors are released, promoting tissue regeneration and collagen production. The new collagen and cells naturally reduce wrinkles and restore the skin’s elasticity.
What does PRP/CGF Treatment involve?
The treatment process starts with an in-depth consultation in order to know your goals and needs. During this consultation, we perform a thorough examination and take you through the procedure. Once we decide on the treatment, we then schedule a session and advise you on how to prepare for the session.
During the session, we start by applying numbing cream and drawing a small amount of blood from you. The amount of blood depends on the treatment area size. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge. The platelets settle at the top making it easy to extract them.
We then cleanse your skin and ensure you’re comfortable. The next step is micro-needling to create small micro punctures on your face. Micro-needling opens up the treatment area in order to increase the penetration of PRP. We then apply a peptide mask to sooth the skin. The treatment takes about 60 minutes.
