Melasma Treatment
Some people are prone to getting patchy areas of hyper-pigmentation of the skin. This is caused by the melanocytes – the cells in the skin responsible for responding to sunlight by darkening the skin to protect against sun damage – being prone to over-stimulation in some areas of the body, usually certain patches of the face.A strict sunblock and cover-up routine can help to prevent it to a degree. This condition is more prevalent in women and can be affected by hormonal changes such as pregnancy or menopause.
How can I treat melasma?
Here at DP MediSkin, we use the most up-to-date methods of melasma treatment, with proven results.
We also use laser treatments to treat melasma at deeper layers of the skin for a longer-lasting effect. We use Q-switched laser and high-powered solution laser systems to help to manage the skin’s production of melanin.
After a full course of treatments, the even skin tone can be maintained for some time with creams and home treatments, which we will explain during the consultation.
Is there a permanent cure for melasma?
No treatment can remove of melasma permanently, so our expert dermal clinicians will advise on the best way to maintain your results at home and how frequently clinic treatment will need to be repeated. It may help to be aware of triggers, such as hormonal changes like pregnancy or some contraceptive treatments, sun exposure, or skin irritation. Understanding some of the causes for you as an individual can help us plan a long term treatment regime. Sometimes, there’s no noticeable trigger for melasma, just patchy areas of skin that gradually darken. We at DP MediSkin work with you and tailor our treatments to your skin and lifestyle to give the best, longest lasting results possible.
And the cost?
No two people’s skins are identical, and we judge the number and type of treatments you need based on the extent of your melasma, and how well it responds to initial treatments. We will achieve the best results as possible, and our dermal clinician will advise you as to the costs, length, and type of treatment at your first appointment. We aim to give optimal results at competitive prices, and we will give you a clear rundown of the any costs involved right from the start, so you don’t get any nasty surprises. Our aim is to get results, and to offer our customers a fair price for their treatments.
So… does it hurt?
People who have laser treatments tend to report a warm sensation during treatment, and then a little inflammation and tenderness afterwards. This resolves quickly. If you have any concerns following treatment at DP MediSkin, our expert advisors are on hand to answer any questions and concerns you may have.
After laser melasma treatment, it’s normal for the patches of melasma on your face to get darker at first. This is a good sign, and is closely followed by the darker areas fading towards your normal skin tone.
