Pigmented lesions are black or dark brown spots that appear on the skin as people age. They are mainly caused by aging, sun exposure, hormones or congenital factors. These black/brown spots vary in shape, size, and depth. Not only are these lesions unattractive and uncomfortable, but they can also be dangerous. Certain moles can be cancerous hence should be treated before they become serious. Benign are the most common pigmented lesions and are mainly removed through Q-Switched lasers.
Fotona’s StarWalker
Of all Q-Switched lasers in the market, StarWalker is the most advanced and most powerful. StarWalker is the upgraded newer generation from OX MAX. Star Walker’s technology combines the high energy capability of nanosecond laser with the ultra short pulse peak powers of traditional picosecond lasers. With four wavelengths in one system, StarWalker is very effective for treating various pigmented lesions, including moles, sunspots, freckles, and age spots. Due to the selectivity of Q-Switched technology, StarWalker can treat even the more challenging conditions like melasma, without ablating the skin. This also makes it a safe and effective technique for removing complex tattoos.
Treatment Procedure
During the treatment, our Dermal clinician applies Q-Switched laser pulses to the entire area of the pigmented lesion. The skin cells that contain the melanin absorb the laser energy, then heats up and degenerates. The Q-Switched light is very selective hence does not harm the surrounding skin tissue.
Once the treatment is complete, dead skin cells are flushed out as the area heals, thereby, revealing brighter, unblemished skin. The duration of a session depends on the size of the lesion, but most of them take a few minutes. To achieve the best results, a number of sessions are required, depending on the size of the lesion. Small lesions may disappear after a single session while others can take even six or more sessions.
